Pneumococcal septic shock after neonatal respiratory syncytial virus bronchiolitis: A case report and literature review
CONCLUSIONS: There is increasing evidence that RSV and S. pneumoniae co-infect and interact with each other, thus increasing respiratory diseases' severity. We provide a brief overview of the main international guidelines for managing bronchiolitis. Guidelines suggest avoidance of antibiotics use when the diagnosis of viral bronchiolitis is confirmed. We discuss the uncertainties regarding antibiotic use, especially in younger infants, who are more exposed to risks of bacterial superinfection.PMID:33944814 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v92iS1.11209

Dynamics of antimicrobial resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae following PCV10 introduction in Brazil: Nationwide surveillance from 2007 to 2019
CONCLUSIONS: Antimicrobial non-susceptible Spn decreased in the three-years after vaccination but subsequently increased and was associated with non-PCV10-types. Antimicrobial susceptibility surveillance is fundamental for guiding antibiotic therapy policies.PMID:33707062 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.02.063

Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections in Women
This article provides an overview of recurrent UTIs and their management, using current information from systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, and clinical guidelines. A literature search was conducted using MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews databases. Current guidelines on management of recurrent UTIs were obtained through use of a Google search. The authors recommend a pathway for the management of recurrent UTIs, based on the latest evidence. The criterion-standard test for definitive diagnosis of responsible uropathogens is urine microscopy and culture of midstream urine sampl...
